Areas of Practice

DBP offers one-on-one consultations or group workshops. Some areas of expertise are listed below.

Goal Setting & The Foundations of Performance

Goal setting is the single most important factor in performance consulting. In fact, many of the mental performance issues athletes experience are the result of incorrect goal-orientation. Dr. Brown uses a proprietary 6 Question process to help redefine your relationship with your goals and make them go to work for you. This process helps individuals overcome their performance limitations and builds a foundation for future success in both sport and life.

The Skill of Focus & Overcoming Performance Anxiety

Athletes understand skills. They understand the process of learning a new skill and incorporating it through practice and repetition. High performance thinking is no different. Dr. Brown teaches athletes how they think so that they can take control over their thoughts. By learning how to selectively give power to certain thoughts and focus on the right information, athletes will become more effective in the competitive arena.

Mental Toughness & Mindfulness

Everyone knows what a mentally tough athlete looks like, but it can be hard to define. Simply defined, “Mental Toughness” is the process of performing at your best when the obstacles seem stacked against you. Mindfulness-based training is about being aware of your mind and body, but still producing the desired performance regardless of how you feel. Let Dr. Brown teach you to help you build confidence and to trust yourself to execute your best performance when it counts!

Biofeedback & Heart Rate Variability Training

With the creation of new fitness “wearables,” Heart Rate Variability (HRV) has become all the rage. However, without a proper understanding of what HRV means, it is hard to put it to work in improving performance. Biofeedback is the process of using real-time data to understand how our thoughts affect our bodies. Using biofeedback and other exercises, we can learn to control our arousal and anxiety even in the most tense circumstances. Learn what tools you need AND how to effectively use them.
