While his primary background is in swimming, he is an avid cyclist, weight lifter, and exercise physiology enthusiast. He enjoys working with athletes who are passionate about reaching their full potential, no matter the sport or level. Dr. Brown has conducted many personalized sessions, workshops, and camps, and has done mental performance coaching with NCAA Champions and Olympians from all over the world.

In addition to mental performance coaching, Dr. Brown is currently in his fourth season serving as the Associate Head Coach for the University of North Carolina Swimming and Diving program. Prior to his arrival at UNC, he coached seven seasons at the University of Missouri. During his tenure with the Tigers, Brown worked with the middle distance, distance and individual medley groups. His distance group rewrote the record board at Missouri, and his swimmers went on to score in multiple events at the NCAA Championships. While at Mizzou, he coached NCAA champions, U.S. National Champions, and several Olympians and U.S. National Team Members. He also directed the team’s mental performance program.

Before earning his doctorate in sport psychology, Brown graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Arizona, where he was on the winning NCAA Championship team in 2008. He was a team captain, 10-time All-American, PAC-10 conference champion, and former school record holder. In 2010, he was named a first-team Academic All-American, NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient and PAC-10 Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.

Following his collegiate career, Brown was a two-time member of the U.S. National Team, a multiple-time U.S. Open champion and record holder, and an U.S. Olympic Trials finalist in the 400 IM. At the height of his career, he was ranked 9th and 10th in the world, in the 400 I.M. and 200 I.M. respectively.

A native of Atlanta, Brown competed with Swim Atlanta and was a standout performer at The Westminster Schools, where he has been inducted into the Breithaupt Athletic Hall of Fame.
